Welcome to Daniel Boone Wrestling
Home of the Blazers !!
Updated February 2015
Don't hope to succeed, Work To Succeed !
Congratulations to the Boone High School wrestling team for a strong showing at the 2014-2015 District 3 AAA Section 4 wrestling tournament.
The Blazers finished 4th in the team standings out of a field of 13 teams. This was accomplished despite the fact that the Blazers had no wrestler entered for 4 of the 14 weight classes of the tournament, including the unfortunate absence of Mason Hoffman, who might have been able to help lift the Blazers to a 3rd overall had he been with the team. Nonetheless, the Blazers placed 8 out 10 wrestlers in their brackets. There were 3 tough losses - by 2 points or less - in the semifinals, narrowly keeping Blazer wrestlers out of the finals. The team did put 5 wrestlers into the Consolation Finals with a chance to finish 3rd and move on to Hershey. Four of those five Blazer wrestlers were able to get tough wins (except Joey Yohn, who made it look easy !) and qualify for and advance to the District 3/South Central Regional Tournament in Hershey next weekend.
Representing the Blazers in Hershey this year will be Jesse Enck, Christian Fernandez, Brenden Valverde, and Joe Yohn. Congratulations guys and good luck in Hershey !
Way to go wrestlers on finishing this season on a roll. This team won 11 of it's final 12 duals and was very strong in the Ram Invitational and Sectional tournaments !! You have represented yourselves and your program well.
(2014 Season Preview) :
Despite numerous good individual season's by Blazer wrestlers, a thin lineup and untimely injuries again took their toll on team results during the 2013-2014 campaign. The Blazers fielded four 20+ win wrestlers, with Owen Powell leading the team in victories for the second straight year. They also returned two wrestlers to the District 3/SC Regional tournament, with Christian Fernandez and Mason Hoffman representing the Blazers. Several other wrestlers also had solid seasons, including Shayne Bookwalter, Joe Yohn, CJ Spalding, and Brenden Valverde. As was the case the previous year however, too many holes in the lineup often proved to be the difference in the final team score, as the Blazers just didn't have the horses to overcome most opponents.
2014-2015 could be a step forward for the Blazers, as 8 varsity wrestlers, including 7 double-digit win wrestlers return to the mats. If the squad can get any solid contributions from new wrestlers and incoming freshman, it is easy to picture a turnaround in the standings and a return to the ranks of a winning program. Adding depth and plugging a few holes in the lineup will be key for the squad as this year's lineup will feature several wrestlers with District/Regional, or even State qualifier potential. Several other wrestlers put in the work and gained valuable experience last year, and are now ready to build on that work and experience and take it to the next level. Should those valuable new wrestlers bring that needed depth, this year's Blazer Wrestling Team should compete in the upper ranks of Berks Conference I this season.

(2013 Season Preview) : The Blazer wrestling program stepped up in the 2012-2013 season, improving over the prior season's results. A good mix of Senior leadership along with some new talent combined to produce more team and individual accomplishments than the previous year. A solid group of Seniors led the way and provided the foundation for the squad to build around. TJ Richard, Jordan LaHaise, Jimmy Kramer, Nick Limone, and Dalton Keller produced the kind of Senior seasons that the squad needed from them while impressive results from newcomers Owen Powell, Christian Fernandez, Shayne Bookwalter, and Joe Yohn, in addition to the strong return of Jay Yohn to the lineup, added much needed depth and established a foundation for the future. As a result, this squad delivered an improved team record and numerous strong individual season results, including six 20+ win wrestlers and two District qualifiers in Powell and Fernandez.
Despite that success, however, there remained an overall lack of depth with too many holes in the lineup, resulting in forfeits to the other teams. Some weight classes with no wrestlers along with several season ending injuries again gave away too many team points for the Blazers to win the close matches. In fact, eight match losses were by less than ten team points after the Blazers were forced to forfeit numerous bouts.
Looking ahead, after the graduation of that solid Senior class, the Blazers may again be thin in 2013-2014 and filling out a full roster could again be a challenge. They will need all of their returning wrestlers to stay healthy and in the lineup. If they do, several of those Blazer wrestlers are poised for strong individual seasons. However, to improve upon last year's team results, they will need to get contributions from other wrestlers, such as newcomers CJ Spalding, Brenden Valverde, and Jack Zummo, among others.

(2012 Season Preview) : 2011-2012 was a tough season for the Blazer's after being hit hard by graduation from the excellent squad of the previous year. The Blazers lost 10 Seniors from that team to graduation, including six 20+ win wrestlers, with three of those being 30+ win wrestlers. Sam Batchelor and Colin Martucci have gone on to continue their wrestling careers at the college level at Lycoming College and East Stroudsburg University respectively. Continued success guys !!
As a result of all those graduations, the Blazers fielded a much younger squad last season that was further disadvantaged by several forfeits at the lower weight classes. Despite a poor team record, a number of Blazer wrestlers put up solid individual seasons, led by the lone Senior on the team, Rob Fitzcharles, who notched 25 wins and fell one match short of a trip to Districts.
Most of those wrestlers from last year's squad return in 2012-2013 for a team that will be more experienced and deeper than last year's team. Returning wrestlers expected to contribute are: Tyler Richard, Brandon Spalding, Christian Fernandez, Jordan LaHaise, Nick Limone, Shayne Bookwalter, Dalton Keller, Cody Barrows, and Kurt Gheer, as well as a number of experienced JV wrestlers vying for spots in the lineup. Also coming in from Middle School and expecting to contribute this year are, among others, Owen Powell and Joe Yohn.
